Horse Riding School at South Coast Training Stables

And the Essay Winner is... Camille Schenk’s!
This is why her Trainers make her happy in her own words...

“South Coast Training Stables is, and will always be one of the most important places in my life. Its riders have an overwhelming amount of love and support for one another in and out of the show ring. My two trainers are Jessica Odom and Lacy Norris. They are the incredible people whom I have to thank for making the barn such a special environment. When I first started riding, I knew that I would want to learn how to jump, but I was always too scared. I was comfortable at the barn where I took riding lessons, and was nervous to try something new. A friend of mine recommended that I come and take a trial lesson with Jessica, and I agreed. It turned out to be one of the best lessons I had ever had. Jess was so caring and passionate about what she was doing, that her positive energy immediately inspired me!

Since then, my riding has improved dramatically. Jessica and Lacy are firm when they need to be and they encourage all of us to continuously improve our riding . We do a lot of pole work (for finding better distances), as well as no- stirrup lessons (to build leg muscles). Over time, I have learned a lot about the importance of flatwork, as well as other horsemanship skills.

My trainers have helped me to become as fearless as they are. With every lesson I become more and more confident in my abilities to be a team with my horse. I really couldn’t ask for better trainers. They believe in us even when we do not believe in ourselves, and they are very patient when we make mistakes. Jessica and Lacy only want the best for us. In addition, they very often organize barn activities such as lunches, and trips to various theme parks. These activities are wonderful opportunities for our group of riders to bond and to feel like family.”
